Another Internet biography, huh. Another space in which - should the correct turns of phrase and sharp witticisms befall me - I can humorously and articulately exaggerate and/or underplay my station in life. Depending, of course, on which one suits my agenda. A space practically begging for a sequence of memorable soundbytes and cracking one liners so that I, like so many before me, can go on to achieve the luminous status of 'web celeb.' "You're Leander off Myspace/Livejournal/Insularandhermetical.com" they shall cry, as I stumble past at a show, awkwardly bashing people with my cumbersome backpack...
Ok lets give it a shot. I live in Brighton. Its great. Although I don't especially care for the sea. But I do like the bird formations over the pier at dusk. Woo I'm so emo, right? Get over it. David Attenborough likes bird formations. No one calls him emo. Erm, I'm actually not a fan of too many things. Nice segue, huh. Anyway, the things I am a fan of, I'm a seriously big fan of. Music, movies, writing.
I sing in a band. Woop woop, right? Who doesn't. But, I believe we are a group of reasonable merit... We play big music. The kind that soars and gives you goosebumps and can become like an old friend. Oh, and we're called District.
When not absorbed in that I am a writer. Or rather, a journalist. It gets worse. A music journalist. I write, primarily, for Terrorizer, much to the dismay of the few advocates of "true" metal, whatever that really is. I also have, in the past, scribbled the odd article for Alternative Press, the best magazine almost entirely unavailable on Brit shores. Its fanzine journalism gone glossy, and its cracking.
My 'day job', the one that pays for me to eat and have, y'know, light and stuff, is as a music publicist with Velocity Communications. I represent Textures, Architects, Renee Heartfelt, Alice Shaw, Ella and Blood Roses. All very fine acts. If you don't have them on your iPod/coolPod/popPod then seriously sort yourself the fuck out. And that's not just the publicist in me, thats the enthusiastic kid. I also do PR for a Sky channel called Redemption TV, who I have recently started writing and co-presenting a show for. So, as of March 3rd, if you have Sky of course, you'll be able to watch me pull stupid gurns and wrap my gob around wordy scripts...all in the name of making Popworld, but for METAL.
Oh and if you hadn't figured it out yet I like hardcore, metal, emo, post hardcore, rock, post rock, doom, death, sludge, blah blah blah. Shit with drums and guitars. Although I dislike 99.9% of the bands in the NME, and 80% of the bands in Kerrang. So that should give you some kind of indication. And my favourite band is Glassjaw. Unequivocally and unwavering.
I also love films, as previously stated. Amongst my favourites are Aliens, Heat, The Godfather, Die Hard, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind, Seven, Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy, Dogma, Fight Club, Batman, The Terminator, Platoon, Jurassic Park, Garden State, Indiana Jones trilogy, Akira, Back To The Future trilogy, The Fugitive, The Lost Boys, Spiderman, The Usual Suspects and so on. Make of that what you will.
So there you have it. Me, or at least a typed appropriation of me. Get involved. Or, not. Whatever.
